Goodbyes & Gratitudes

In 2019, we took the plunge to start Kindred Co., a company dedicated to curating gift boxes with products from small business and brands owned and co-owned by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). Without any small business background, we leaned on hard work and our values and dove right into creating Kindred Co. because we believed that we could play a small part in supporting BIPOC businesses.

Throughout this journey, we are continually amazed by the generosity of other small business owners who provide guidance and cheer us on. We are humbled by the trust our customers had in us to curate gifts that speak directly to their visions and values. We’ve sent out thousands of gift boxes to thousands of happy recipients over the years, and we are grateful beyond measure for the opportunity to connect and build with so many amazing people across the country.

We are closing down Kindred Co. because as working mothers, we need to prioritize changes in our lives to create space for our families, rest, and joy. Running a small business, in addition to working full time, and trying to be present for our families over the past few years has taken a toll on our well being. We are grateful for all the lessons learned and we feel excited about this change and what is ahead for each of us. In addition to spending more precious time with our families, Gao will continue her entrepreneurial journey as co-owner of Uprooted Coffee; Helly will continue her work as an organizational consultant with an incredible Black-owned and led firm, Frontline Solutions; and Suzie will focus on building her life in England. Our commitment and work to build a better world for BIPOC businesses and communities will continue through our professional and personal journeys.

With Love,

Helly, Gao, and Suzie

Welcome to Kindred Co.
